Best way to do deal with Gaslighting at office

Get up in the morning, after relaxing over the weekend to start another week, The mind is gearing up for many activities, reports, excel, calls, meetings, largely everything related to tasks on the office table.

However besides, the work activities, can’t forget the people, our colleagues, and Bosses. Cause dealing with them, engaging with them is also weeklong activity.

Among those should we get somebody who gaslights us, well that is a task for the week. Time and again we come across people / colleagues hard to get by.

Gaslighting at work can take many forms and is often subtle, causing the victim to question their perception.

It takes time for the victim to realise what is happening, sometimes days, weeks, and years.

Caught between essential work, personal work, and many mundane activities, the victim tend to overlook this harassment. This leaves him/her always in the state of confusion. It’s a constant dance of being supportive and friendly and being cruel and unkind.

Eventually this takes a toll on one’s mental health. The victim becomes highly unsure, confused, anxious and depressed.

How do we deal with it?

Good question, by prioritizing our mental health. Making time for self-care, such as exercise, meditation , mindfulness, journaling, spending time with loved ones, and connecting with nature and finally if nothing works speaking to a therapist.

We need to work on ourselves, as confronting a gaslighter won’t help much as they will never accept their fault or accept anything wrong with their behaviour.

Avoid the Gaslighter, find ways to reduce the contact you have with them as much as possible, for example, avoid lunches, coffees, and meetings with them, interact with other people in the organization.

Finally, if nothing works to rescue your mental health, leave the organization.
