You know how it feels awesome to hang out with friends, talk to people, and feel like you belong? That’s because connecting with others is super important for our minds and bodies. When you make friends and talk to people, you feel happier and less lonely. That’s like a health bonus for your brain!

Sometimes, you might feel like it’s really hard to talk to people or make new friends. Let’s look at some reasons why that might happen:

If you feel awkward when meeting new people, don’t worry; you’re not alone! Some folks feel nervous because they’re not sure what to say or how to act. Maybe you feel shy or think people won’t like you. But guess what? You can learn how to get better at this by practicing and maybe talking to someone who can help, like a counselor.

If something bad happened to you, like being bullied or mistreated, it’s natural to find it hard to trust people. It makes you put up your “protective wall” so you don’t get hurt again. But remember, not everyone is out to hurt you.

Some people feel anxious or down a lot of the time, which makes it extra hard to connect with others. It’s like a big, invisible wall between you and everyone else. If you feel this way, talking to a professional can help.

Too Much Screen Time?

Sometimes, we get so caught up in our phones and games that we forget how to talk to real, live humans. A screen can’t replace a heart-to-heart chat with a friend. The problem is that online interactions often don’t give us the same emotional rewards as face-to-face conversations.

Think about it: can a “like” or an emoji hug really replace the feeling of a real hug or a heartfelt conversation? Spending too much time in the digital world can make it tricky to navigate the real world, where making eye contact, reading people’s emotions, and holding a conversation are super important skills.

So, while screens can be fun and useful, they shouldn’t replace real human connection. Remember to balance your screen time with face-to-face interactions to keep your social skills sharp and your emotional well-being in check.

Okay, so how do you get better at this friend-making thing?

If you want to make more friends, you’ve got to meet more people! Join a club, play a sport, or go to events where you can meet folks who like the same stuff you do.

Nobody is born a perfect talker. You can get better at it by practicing. Talk to people around you, like your family, friends, or even the person sitting next to you on the bus.

Don’t forget the people who already love you, like your family and old friends. They’re a great starting point to practice talking and to feel loved and connected.

So there you have it! Making friends and connecting with people is really good for you, and even if it feels hard now, you can get better at it.

    Really interesting post. I don’t have a lot of friends and don’t make friends easily. But the friends that I do have, I adore and I think I’m pretty satisfied with my friends group for now. But if I’m ever looking to make new friends I’ll keep this post in mind.
