It Matters, But Should It?

Learning to value ourselves over the noise of opinions

We live in a world full of opinions.
From the moment we wake up, there’s someone or the other ready to share what they think — about us, about our choices, about what we wear, eat, say, and even what we dream of doing. And let’s be honest, Dear Mukta, we often find ourselves seeking these opinions, don’t we?

When we buy something new, we quickly ask a friend if it looks good. When we share an idea, we pause to see how others react. Somewhere, somehow, it has become second nature to wait for validation. Slowly but surely, it starts to matter. So much so, that our mind begins to depend on it.

Over time, without even realising, we build a structure in our minds that feeds on what others say. It feels normal to want others’ approval. But here’s the catch: it’s not always healthy.
Yes, listening to others can give perspective, but letting every opinion define your self-worth? That’s where the problem starts.

Imagine a life where your value isn’t tied to someone else’s thoughts. Where you are so deeply connected with your own worth, that external opinions, whether they’re praises or criticisms, don’t shake you. Sounds freeing, right? Because it is.

The truth is, we need to value ourselves enough to understand that while opinions exist, they don’t have to control us. The opinion of others is just noise — and you, my friend, are the melody. Once you start seeing it this way, you’ll find a beautiful confidence blooming inside you. One that’s not dependent on others to grow.

The next time someone throws an opinion your way, pause, smile, and remember: it only matters if you let it.
